Aluminum (AlSi10Mg) — Metal 3D Printing

Aluminum (AlSi10Mg) is a light, strong metal powder. We build real parts from it with SLM (Selective Laser Melting).

In SLM, a laser melts the powder layer by layer. The layers stack into a solid metal part. No mold is needed. Almost no material is wasted.

  • Light weight with good strength — great for brackets and housings
  • High heat transfer — ideal for heat sinks and heat exchangers
  • Complex shapes made easy — thin walls and internal channels
  • Finishes available: bead blasting and anodizing
  • One prototype or full production — no strict minimum order

Overview

What Is Aluminum (AlSi10Mg) 3D Printing?

Aluminum (AlSi10Mg) is a light metal powder. We turn it into real, solid parts with SLM — Selective Laser Melting. A laser melts the powder one thin layer at a time. The layers stack up until the part is complete. No mold is needed, and very little material is wasted. That makes it perfect for shapes that are hard or costly to machine.

Material: AlSi10Mg

A cast-friendly aluminum alloy made for 3D printing. It is light, strong, and prints with stable, repeatable results.

Process: SLM

Selective Laser Melting. A fiber laser fuses AlSi10Mg powder, layer by layer, into a dense metal part.

Result: Real Metal Parts

Solid, fully dense aluminum parts for prototypes or production — finished to your exact needs.

Why Aluminum

Why Choose Aluminum 3D Printing

Lightweight

High strength-to-weight ratio. Cut weight without losing strength — key for flight and vehicle parts.

Great Heat Transfer

High thermal conductivity. Ideal for heat sinks, cooling housings, and heat exchangers.

Complex Shapes

Build internal channels and lattices. Merge many parts into one to cut assembly and waste.

Corrosion Resistant

Good resistance to rust and wear. Reliable in tough or outdoor environments.

Aluminum Alloys

Our Aluminum Alloys for 3D Printing

We print several aluminum alloys. AlSi10Mg is our recommendation for most parts.

AlSi10Mg — Recommended

Our workhorse alloy. Strong, stable to print, and cost-effective for brackets, housings, and prototypes.

AlSi7Mg

More ductile and fatigue-resistant. A good pick for parts under repeated or dynamic load.

6061

A common structural aluminum. Needs special powder for SLM and suits simpler shapes best.

How It Works

How We Make Your Aluminum Part

Send Files & Get a Quote

Upload your STEP or STL file and drawings. Get a clear, factory-direct quote with free DFM feedback, usually within 24 hours.

Design Review (DFM)

Our engineers check wall thickness, supports, and tolerances. We suggest changes that save cost and improve quality.

SLM Printing

We build your part layer by layer with AlSi10Mg powder and a fiber laser in a controlled chamber.

Post-Processing

We remove supports, then bead blast or anodize the surface for a clean, durable finish.

Inspect & Ship

We measure and inspect each part, then pack and ship worldwide with full tracking.

Applications

Where Aluminum 3D Printing Is Used

Aerospace

Lightweight brackets, heat exchangers, and ducting where every gram counts.

Automotive

Mounting brackets, housings, and cooling parts for lighter, faster vehicles.

Electronics

Heat sinks, enclosures, and structural frames that manage heat and weight.

Medical

Surgical tools, custom fixtures, and device parts built to tight specs.

Design Tips

Easy Design Tips for Beginners

New to metal 3D printing? These simple rules help your part print well and cost less.

Mind Wall Thickness

Keep walls at least 0.5–0.8 mm. Thicker walls print cleaner and stay strong.

Watch Overhangs

Slopes over 45° need supports. Steeper angles print with less support and less cost.

Add Escape Holes

Hollow parts need small holes so loose powder can be removed after printing.

Finishes

Surface Finishes for Aluminum Parts

Bead Blasting

A smooth, matte, even surface. Our standard finish after support removal.

Anodizing

A hard, colored coating that adds corrosion resistance and a clean look.

CNC Machining

Used on key features when you need tight tolerances beyond print accuracy.

Polishing

A brighter, smoother surface on selected areas for a premium finish.

FAQ

Aluminum (AlSi10Mg) — Frequently Asked Questions

It builds solid metal parts from aluminum powder using a laser. The most common method is SLM (Selective Laser Melting), where a laser melts each layer until the part is complete.
SLM stands for Selective Laser Melting. It is a type of metal 3D printing where a fiber laser fuses thin layers of metal powder into a dense, solid part.
AlSi10Mg is a lightweight aluminum alloy made for 3D printing. It is strong, prints with stable results, and resists heat and corrosion.
AlSi10Mg reaches about 440 MPa tensile strength. That is strong enough for real, working parts, not just models.
