What is Broaching?
Broaching is a machining process that uses a toothed tool (called a broach) to remove material in one single pass. Each tooth on the broach cuts a little deeper than the one before it. The result: a finished shape — keyway, spline, hex, square, or custom form — with excellent repeatability and tight tolerances.
Unlike milling or shaping, which needs multiple passes and skilled setup, broaching produces the full form in seconds per part. That means lower cost per piece, especially when you need hundreds or thousands of identical parts.
As a professional China broaching manufacturer and factory, we operate both vertical and horizontal broaching machines to handle internal and external broaching jobs of all sizes.
The Problem
We hear this every day from buyers who come to us after bad experiences with other vendors.
One batch has perfect keyways. The next batch has parts that don't fit. No inspection reports. No way to trace what went wrong.
You were promised 7 days. Three weeks later, you're still waiting. Your production line sits idle because a single keyway operation is holding everything up.
Trading companies and middlemen mark up broaching work by 30–50%. You pay for layers you don't see, and you still can't talk to the engineer making your parts.
Emails go unanswered for days. Nobody speaks your language in technical detail. You can't get clear answers about tolerances, materials, or tooling costs.
Your shop can mill simple keyways, but they can't broach involute splines or internal hexes. You end up juggling multiple vendors for one part.
You send your drawings overseas, and you have no idea who sees them. No NDA, no secure file handling, no protection for your designs.

What We Broach
We cover the full range of broaching work that OEMs, job shops, and product companies need most often.
The most common broaching job. We cut straight keyways into bores of hubs, gears, pulleys, sprockets, and couplings. Standard ANSI and metric keyway widths in stock — no custom tooling charge for most standard sizes. Single or multiple keyways per part.
We broach involute splines and straight-sided splines for power transmission parts: shafts, hubs, gear blanks, and clutch components. We work to ANSI B92.1, DIN 5480, ISO 14, JIS, and custom standards. Spline data reviewed by our engineers before every run.
Hex holes, square holes, double-D bores, torx shapes, and other non-circular internal profiles. These shapes are difficult or expensive to mill — broaching produces them in seconds per part with perfect consistency from first piece to last.
For flat surfaces, slots, notches, and external gear teeth on the outside of a part. Surface broaching is fast and repeatable for high-volume jobs such as connecting rods, brackets, and firearm components.
Materials
We broach most common engineering metals. If you don't see your material listed, just ask — we can likely run it.
1018, 1045, 4140, 4340, 8620, A36, and more. Our most commonly broached materials.
303, 304, 316, 416, 17-4 PH, 440C. Free-machining grades preferred, but we handle all.
C360 brass, leaded brass, phosphor bronze, aluminum bronze. Excellent broachability, fast cycle times.
6061, 7075, 2024, 5052. Lightweight, easy to broach, ideal for aerospace and automotive parts.
D2, A2, O1, H13, S7. Annealed condition recommended. Pre-hardened up to ~45 HRC possible.
Pure copper, beryllium copper, Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy for specialized applications.
Ti-6Al-4V (Grade 5), commercially pure titanium. Sharp tooling and proper coolant required — we have the experience.
Gray cast iron, ductile iron, malleable iron. Common in automotive and heavy industry applications.
Why YiguProto
We are not a trading company. We are the actual factory. When you work with YiguProto, you get:
Industries
From medical devices to heavy equipment, broached parts show up everywhere. Here are the sectors we work with most.
Transmission gears, input/output shafts, steering components, parking pawls, CV joint parts. We support IATF 16949-aligned quality systems for production runs.
Surgical instruments, orthopedic implants, dental tools. Material traceability, passivation, and cleanroom-compatible processing available.
Gears, splined shafts, couplings, sprockets, pulleys, clutch hubs. Internal and external splines to ANSI, DIN, and ISO standards.
Why Broaching?
Wondering if broaching is the right process for your part? Here is a quick comparison of how broaching stacks up against other ways to cut internal shapes.
| Factor | Broaching | CNC Milling | Shaping / Slotting | Wire EDM |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cycle time per part | Seconds — one pass | Minutes — multiple passes | Slow — many strokes | Minutes to hours |
| Repeatability (volume) | Excellent | Good (tool wear) | Fair | Good (slow) |
| Surface finish | Good (Ra 1.6+) | Good | Fair | Excellent |
| Cost per part (high volume) | Lowest | Medium | High | Highest |
| Tooling cost (custom shapes) | Higher upfront | Low | Low | None (uses wire) |
| Best for | 100+ identical parts | Prototypes, low volume | Low volume, repairs | Hard materials, low volume, fine detail |
| Internal splines/hexes | Ideal | Possible but slow | Possible but slow | Requires start hole |
